Standby Props & Prop Modelling for TV & Film. Trainee-level professional with a background in magic consultancy and live-stage effects.
With over a decade of experience in designing and constructing props for theatre, magicians, and short films, I have developed a strong foundation in prop fabrication, practical effects, and on-set problem-solving. Now working at a Trainee/Junior level in TV and Film, I am focused on expanding my expertise in Standby Props and progressing towards a Standby Art Director role. My hands-on experience in prop-making and my ability to adapt quickly to fast-paced production environments allow me to effectively support the Art Department and ensure continuity in storytelling.
Standby Props & On-Set Problem-Solving
As part of the Standby Props team, I thrive in high-pressure, on-set environments where quick thinking, attention to detail, and collaboration are crucial. My background as a magic consultant and stage technician has given me extensive experience working live, where precision, adaptability, and problem-solving are essential. Whether ensuring illusions run seamlessly in front of an audience or troubleshooting technical elements in real time, I have developed the ability to think on my feet and respond efficiently under pressure.
These skills transfer directly to the fast-paced nature of TV and film production, where maintaining continuity, adjusting props for practical use, and anticipating the needs of a scene are critical. Whether fine-tuning prop interactions for actors, responding to last-minute script changes, or working closely with directors and cinematographers to enhance storytelling, I bring a dynamic and solutions-focused approach to my work on set.
Prop Modelling & Fabrication
Beyond on-set work, I am strongly interested in Prop Modelling and Fabrication, utilising various materials and techniques to create detailed and functional props. I align closely with Prop Modelling Departments, contributing to the design and construction process while ensuring that props meet the artistic and practical requirements of a production. My background in magic consultancy also enhances my ability to develop interactive and illusion-based props, adding another dimension to my skill set.
Future Goals: Standby Art Director & Continued Growth
My long-term goal is to progress into a Standby Art Director role, building on my on-set experience and deepening my understanding of the Art Department’s workflow. I am committed to learning from seasoned professionals, refining my ability to manage props, oversee artistic continuity, and contribute to the visual cohesion of a production.
Commitment to the Industry
Passionate about storytelling through design, I am eager to continue growing within the industry by gaining hands-on experience and collaborating with skilled teams. My dedication to problem-solving, adaptability, and creative craftsmanship makes me excited to take on new challenges and contribute to visually compelling film and television productions.
